Judiciary in Siwan
There are two courts the Civil Court and the District Court in Siwan. It was during the British rule in India that two divisions, namely, Siwan and Gopalganj, were created in 1875. Civil cases and criminal cases were handled separately. Siwan was then under Saran district. In 1976, a new judgeship was established in Siwan and Gopal ganj came under Siwan. In 1984, Gopalganj was removed from Siwan to form a new judgeship. Siwan was under Saran district till 1976.
